- 19TH C. FRENCH WOOD, IVORY, & BRASS
19TH C. FRENCH WOOD, IVORY, & BRASS FLAGEOLET W/ CASEWestern Europe, France, ca. mid-19th century CE. This is a fine French style flageolet made from cocuswood, nickel brass, and an elephant ivory mouthpiece. The instrument is comprised of 4 detachable segments and a whistle-shaped mouthpiece made of bone. This instrument is like a recorder and flute and fell out of fashion and use by the early 20th century, as it was largely replaced by tin whistles in orchestras. The instrument is unsigned and comes with the original wood and leather case with a red felt interior. Size (flageolet): 15.5" L x 1.5" W (39.4 cm x 3.8 cm); (case): 9.5" L x 4" W (24.1 cm x 10.2 cm)
This is an ESA antique exempt piece of ivory and cannot be sold internationally or to anyone residing in the states of California, Hawaii, Illinois, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, and Washington. We guarantee that the piece is over 100 years old.
